Bagasse is the waste fibre that is left after sugarcane has been pressed for its juice.

  • It is a waste material and has the least environmental impact of all our food packaging products.
  • Bagasse is a sustainable & renewable resource. Sugar takes one year to regrow.
  • Certified GM Free.
  • Very strong and can hold its shape well.
  • Can be used as a tree-free paper.
  • Best case scenario it ends in a home or commercial compost heap where it composts and is used to feed the soil and grow more plants.
  • Bagasse products biodegrade when exposed to the right conditions of air, bacteria, moisture and heat.

 

Bagasse is used for our takeaway boxes and containers, our range of disposable plates and bowls and our ice cream cups. They are:

  • Heat resistant up to 100°C.
  • Water resistant.
  • Oil Proof.
  • Microwave safe.
  • Freezer friendly.
  • Breathable – Your food won’t sweat.

Bagasse Paper

Bagasse makes a great alternative to wood pulp for paper. Our eco-friendly toilet paper, serviettes and bowl lids are made from a minimum of 60% bagasse and 40% wood pulp from a certified sustainable source. They are:

  • Recycled raw material – sugarcane waste fibres.
  • Elemental Chlorine free – Bleached using an elemental chlorine-free (ECF) process.
  • Locally manufactured.
  • FSC Certified.

Bioplastics are plastic derived from plant sources such as hemp oil, soy bean oil and corn starch. It looks like petroleum based plastic.

  • Bioplastic is not made from petroleum, which is a non-renewable resource.
  • Bioplastics come from sustainable & renewable resources. Corn regrows in a year.
  • They are non-toxic: no harmful toxins will leak into the food.
  • Best case scenario it ends in a commercial compost facility where it composts and is used to feed the soil and grow more plants.
  • Bioplastics takes longer to biodegrade in home composts, where conditions are uncontrolled and are rarely optimal. If it does end up in a landfill it will biodegrade if it is exposed to bacteria, moisture and heat.

There are different biodegradable plastics available, each with their own properties:

  • PLA: PLA is made from fermented corn starch, and is a great alternative to conventional petroleum based plastic in many applications. PLA is transparent and heat sensitive to 40°C. It’s used on its own, or as a thin sheet over bagasse or cardboard to act as a moisture or grease barrier. It is used to make our bags, bowls, cups and lids.
  • CPLA: CPLA is a combination of PLA, chalk and other biodegradable additives and can withstand temperatures of up to 95°C without deforming. It is usually opaque in colour and is used for making our disposable cutlery.

Our pizza boxes, cup carriers, paper bags and punnets are made from first generation factory waste paper (99.95%) and FDA approved Alkaline Paper sizing agent (0.05%). They are:

  • Ideal for dry good foods.
  • Best case scenario it ends in a home or commercial compost heap where it composts and is used to feed the soil and grow more plants.
  • If it does end up in a landfill it will biodegrade if it is exposed to bacteria, moisture and heat.

Wood Cellophane is made from regenerated wood, cotton or hemp cellulose. Our cellophane is:

  • Made from FSC certified sustainably-sourced wood pulp.
  • Has a high barrier to air, grease and bacteria making it ideal for food packaging.
  • Can be heat sealed.
  • Is home compostable.

Our wooden cutlery is made from birchwood which is ideal for disposable food items. It is:

  • A fast growing renewable resource from FSC certified sustainably forested areas.
  • Best case scenario it ends in a home or commercial compost heap where it composts and is used to feed the soil and grow more plants.
  • If it does end up in a landfill it will biodegrade if it is exposed to bacteria, moisture and heat.

Our greaseproof paper is made from wood sourced certified sustainable forests. The greaseproof properties are obtained during the pulping process and so no chemical treatings or coatings are used. It is:

  • Certified by ISEGA, FDA and GOSPA.
  • Made from sustainable resources.
  • Best case scenario it ends in a home or commercial compost heap where it composts and is used to feed the soil and grow more plants.
  • It is does end up in a landfill it will biodegrade when exposed to bacteria, moisture and heat.
  • It is recyclable with other paper products.

  • A fast growing renewable resource.
  • From FSC certified sustainably forested areas.
